With a quietness and nonchalance, Katie Bowen commands the stage when performing. Whether working with a group of stellar musicians or a cappella her energy is transparent, as is the easy rapport between players and singer. Calling on a diverse blend of influences, Katie showcases her arrangements describing life's journeys, love’s longing and a devotion to God.

Katie has carved a deep niche in the culture of Northeastern New York State, filling clubs, theaters, cafe's and the hearts of her devoted fans. Born in South Salem, New York, to a house full of music, she sang from her earliest memories, performing in the choir, in school and while playing with friends. Bowen recalls, "I was never not singing!"

After more than a decade of performing live, Bowen stepped into the studio to record her first album. Collaborating with musician/producer Charley Brown, they released the progressive folk-rock “Firemen in the Japanese Garden” in 1992. Since then, nothing can stop this woman with a tale to tell and a heart and voice too big to hold back.

Establishing herself as a soloist, Bowen revealed a willingness to share a deeply personal journey in "Walk the Walk", released in 1995. By 1999 Bowen was finishing a degree in music therapy and swimming in the world of jazz with the outstanding faculty of the State University of NY at New Paltz. Katie produced her record, "A Spell Like This”, which highlights her smokey range with sexy 1950’s love ballads, swing standards, Brazilian jazz and originals. Within the mood of this recording one hears the influences of Blossom Dearie and Peggy Lee, seasoned with the sensuality of Chet Baker and Miles Davis.

Without skipping a beat Bowen followed her muse to reveal, the self-produced, "humans don't fly" (2002). The best part of the record is Bowen's wonderful, natural voice, which makes each song a gem. Here she achieved a natural blending of all her experiences, creating a record which has a glossy surface reflecting pop and jazz crossovers.

"Everyday everyday" is Katie's latest recording, highlighting many of her own arrangements. This mainly a cappella compilation of familiar songs speaks of God as love, nature, forgiveness, and the present moment. This CD was created for soothing and quieting the mind, inviting the listener to open to the healing essence of Love.
